Sysident - Instructions for determining your system comfiguration. In order to print the configuration files for a computer, you must exit the computer to DOS. Once you have exited to DOS you must know how your computer starts. Does it start using a FLOPPY DISK. If a disk is always in the computer when you turn it on, then it most likely "boots" or starts up from floppy disk. Does it start using a HARD DISK. A hard disk is inside the computer (the 3.5" hard cased diskettes are still called floppy disks) which is usually called 'C' drive. Does the computer start using a BOOT PROM. A boot prom also is inside the computer, but there is different information on the screen when it starts. What type of NETWORK are you using (Lantastic, Netware Lite, Personal Netware, Novell Netware) If you are unsure about how your system starts, ask your local technician. To print the startup files make sure you have blank paper in the printer. type: TYPE C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT > LPT1 and press In technical terms: this command prints the autoexec.bat file on the c drive to the first parallel port. Use this command for hard drive systems, if you are using a boot diskette (floppy disk) then change the C: to A:. Next type: TYPE C:\CONFIG.SYS > LPT1 and press Please label these print outs for the computer that you just printed them off. IE Workstation # 1, or Workstation 'Fred', however you identify your computers. Please make sure that you note which is the File Server, and which are the work stations. Please also include a diagram of your system setup, which describes where the computers are, and which workstation they are.
